Eternals is a 2021 Marvel movie that introduces a new team of superheroes who have been living secretly on Earth for thousands of years. They are ancient aliens with different powers and personalities, who were sent by a cosmic being called Arishem to protect humanity from the Deviants, a monstrous race of creatures. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, a tragedy forces the Eternals to reunite and face their enemies, as well as their own past and destiny.
The movie features an ensemble cast of stars, including Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, and Harry Styles as Eros.
Story:
The film begins with a prologue that explains the origin of the Eternals and their mission. They were created by the Celestials, cosmic entities who seeded life across the universe. The Celestials also planted their embryos inside planets, which would grow and emerge after absorbing enough energy from the life forms. However, this process would also destroy the planets and their inhabitants.
To protect their creations, the Celestials sent the Eternals to various worlds to eliminate the Deviants, monstrous creatures who preyed on life forms and disrupted the Celestials' plan. The Eternals were also instructed to not interfere with the affairs of their host civilizations, unless they involved the Deviants.

The film then shifts to 5000 BC, when a group of ten Eternals arrived on Earth on their starship, the Domo. They were Ajak, the leader and healer; Sersi, the empath and matter manipulator; Ikaris, the flyer and energy projector; Kingo, the finger gunner and Bollywood star; Sprite, the illusionist and eternal child; Phastos, the inventor and technologist; Makkari, the speedster and bookworm; Druig, the mind controller and loner; Gilgamesh, the strongman and cook; and Thena, the warrior and weapon maker.
The Eternals fought and killed many Deviants over the centuries, while also witnessing and influencing human history and culture. They became friends with some humans, such as Karun, Kingo's valet; Ben, Phastos' husband; and Dane Whitman, Sersi's boyfriend. However, they also faced conflicts among themselves, such as Ikaris' love for Sersi, Sprite's jealousy of Sersi, Druig's disdain for humanity, and Thena's madness caused by a Deviant infection.
The film then jumps to the present day, after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The Eternals have mostly separated and lived in different parts of the world. However, they are reunited by a series of events that reveal their true purpose and destiny.
First, Sersi and Sprite are attacked by a Deviant in London, but are saved by Ikaris, who tells them that he was contacted by Ajak. They go to South Dakota to meet her, but find her dead body instead. They realize that she was killed by a Deviant who had evolved to absorb the Eternals' powers and memories.
Second, they discover that Ajak had transferred her leadership role and ability to communicate with the Celestials to Sersi before she died. Sersi learns from Arishem, the leader of the Celestials, that Earth's emergence is imminent and that they have to stop it by using a device called the Unimind.
The Unimind is a collective consciousness that links all Eternals together and allows them to channel their energy into a beacon that will destroy Tiamut, the Celestial embryo inside Earth.

Third, they decide to find and gather all Eternals to activate the Unimind. They travel to different locations and recruit Kingo in India, Phastos in Chicago, Makkari in the Domo, Druig in Amazonia, Gilgamesh in Australia, and Thena in Athens. Along the way, they encounter more Deviants led by Kro, who wants to stop them from killing Tiamut.
The film reaches its climax when they arrive at an island in the Pacific Ocean where Tiamut's hand is emerging from the sea. They are confronted by Ikaris, who reveals that he knew about their true mission all along and that he killed Ajak because she wanted to betray it. He believes that they should follow Arishem's orders and let Tiamut be born at any cost.

Movie Review:
"Eternals" has undoubtedly been a polarizing addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with reviews ranging from enthusiastic praise to strong criticism. As with any film, people's reactions are subjective, and it's clear that this movie has left audiences divided.
One prevalent sentiment among positive reviews is appreciation for director Chloe Zhao's skill in introducing a large ensemble of new characters into the MCU. Many viewers felt that each character was well-developed, and they connected with them on a deeper level. The diversity of the cast was also highly praised, as it provided much-needed representation from various minority groups, making the film more inclusive and refreshing.

Thena and Gilgamesh emerged as standout characters, with their platonic bond resonating strongly with the audience. The chemistry between Makkari and Druig was also well-received, but some fans wished these characters had more screen time to explore their dynamic further. Additionally, the relationship between Ikaris and Sersi was praised for its chemistry, and the plot twist surrounding them took many viewers by surprise.
The film's stunning visual effects received unanimous praise, particularly in the portrayal of Arishem, a celestial entity. The action scenes, which showcased the Eternals' extraordinary powers, were visually impressive and added excitement to the movie.
On the other hand, some negative reviews criticized the film for its meandering plot, excessive characters, and disjointed storytelling. Some felt that the pacing was slow, and the plot tried to cover too much ground, making it challenging to fully connect with all the characters and their individual storylines. There were also complaints about cheesy dialogue and scenes that felt unnecessary or distracting from the main narrative.
Critics of "Eternals" expressed disappointment in the character development, feeling that many of the Eternals lacked depth and charisma. Some questioned the decision to introduce ten main characters simultaneously, as it made it difficult for the audience to become emotionally invested in all of them. Some also found the scale of the Celestials and the moral questions raised to be overwhelming, believing that the movie took on too much for a single installment.

Despite the mixed reactions, there is no denying that the film touched upon significant themes, including love, destiny, morality, and purpose. It explored the complexities of human experience through the lens of god-like beings living among humans, offering a unique and thought-provoking perspective.
Ultimately, "Eternals" succeeds in providing a diverse cast of characters and stunning visual spectacle, but its narrative ambition and character development left some viewers wanting more. As with any film, opinions will vary, and each individual will take away different aspects from the experience. The debate around "Eternals" is a testament to the varied tastes and expectations of Marvel fans and audiences worldwide. Whether you love it or not, "Eternals" has sparked conversations and discussions that will undoubtedly continue as the MCU evolves and expands.
