Story :
Stranger Things season 1 is set in the 1980s in a small town called Hawkins, Indiana. It follows the mysterious disappearance of a young boy named Will Byers and the supernatural events that unfold as his friends and family try to find him.
The story begins with Will playing Dungeons and Dragons with his best friends Mike, Lucas and Dustin at Mike’s basement. On his way home, Will encounters a terrifying creature and vanishes without a trace. His mother Joyce and his older brother Jonathan are frantic with worry and contact the local sheriff Jim Hopper, who starts an investigation.

Meanwhile, Mike, Lucas and Dustin discover a strange girl with shaved head and telekinetic powers hiding in the woods. She tells them her name is Eleven and that she escaped from a secret government facility where she was experimented on by a sinister scientist named Dr. Brenner. She also reveals that she knows where Will is and that he is trapped in a dark parallel dimension called the Upside Down, where the creature that took him lives.
The boys decide to help Eleven find Will and hide her from the authorities, who are looking for her. They use a makeshift radio to communicate with Will, who is still alive but barely surviving in the Upside Down. They also encounter a group of bullies who harass them and try to harm Eleven.
At the same time, Jonathan teams up with Nancy Wheeler, Mike’s older sister and Will’s crush, who is also looking for her friend Barb, who went missing after attending a party with Nancy’s boyfriend Steve. They discover that the creature can travel between the two worlds through portals and that it is attracted by blood. They also find evidence of Eleven’s existence and her connection to Will’s disappearance.
As the story progresses, Joyce becomes convinced that Will is trying to contact her through the lights in her house and builds an elaborate system of Christmas lights and alphabet letters to communicate with him. She also learns from Eleven’s biological mother, Terry Ives, that Eleven was taken from her at birth and that Dr. Brenner is behind the experiments that opened the gate to the Upside Down.
Hopper also uncovers the truth about the government facility and its involvement in Will’s case. He infiltrates the facility with Joyce and finds a portal to the Upside Down. He enters it with Joyce and they manage to locate Will, who is hooked to a tentacle-like creature that feeds on him. They free him and bring him back to the real world, where he is taken to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Mike, Lucas, Dustin and Eleven are chased by Dr. Brenner and his agents to the school, where they confront them in a fierce battle. Eleven uses her powers to kill most of the agents and injure Dr. Brenner, but she also attracts the attention of the creature, which breaks into the school. She sacrifices herself to destroy the creature and save her friends, disappearing along with it.
The story ends with Will being reunited with his family and friends, who mourn Eleven’s loss. However, it is hinted that she is still alive somewhere in the Upside Down, as Hopper leaves some food and Eggo waffles (her favorite snack) in a hidden box in the woods. It is also revealed that Will is not completely normal, as he coughs up a slug-like creature and briefly sees a vision of the Upside Down in his bathroom mirror.
