Web Series Review :
Citadel Season 1 is a spy thriller series that had the potential to deliver an exciting and engaging viewing experience. However, it falls short of expectations and ends up being a forgettable show. The classic spy tropes used in the series, such as the amnesiac protagonist, secretive bad guy organization, and world-ending macguffin, are overused and lack originality. The plot is revealed through bland exposition-style dialogue, leaving little mystery or intrigue to captivate the audience.
One of the highlights of the series is the well-choreographed action scenes, albeit they are few and far between. The train fight scene stands out as a well-executed action sequence. Unfortunately, most of the fights take place in flashbacks, which remove any sense of danger as the viewers already know the protagonist will survive. Additionally, the subplot involving Kane's wife feels sidelined and ends up serving as sequel bait.

The actors in Citadel Season 1 deliver decent performances that fit their respective roles. While not outstanding, they manage to carry the show to some extent. There is an attempt to add some comedic elements to the character of Mason, portrayed by Richard Madden, which provides a refreshing touch in the early episodes. However, the series would have benefitted from fully embracing a comedic take, allowing it to embrace the spy elements without falling into cliché.
Despite the shortcomings, the show does have moderate entertainment value. The frequent plot twist somersaults give it a soap opera-like charm, and the high production value, great casting, and good acting make it worth watching. It does not leave viewers desperate to find out what happens next, which can be both a positive and a negative aspect. On one hand, it avoids the frustration of waiting for a long time for the next season, but on the other hand, it fails to create a strong investment in the plot and characters.

One standout performance in the series is Stanley Tucci as the man in the chair. He shines in a show that seems to limit good actors, and his portrayal brings a nuanced sex appeal, providing a bright spot in an otherwise lackluster series.
Overall, Citadel Season 1 had the potential to be a gripping spy thriller, but it fails to deliver on its promises. The overuse of cliché spy tropes, lack of originality, and predictable plot twists hinder its ability to engage and captivate the audience. Despite some well-executed action scenes and decent performances, the series ultimately falls short, resulting in a fun yet forgettable viewing experience.
